HECTOR ACEVEDO

A BIT ABOUT ME

Héctor Acevedo Rojas was born in Lima in 1963 and lives and works in Surco, Lima-Peru.

In 1986 Héctor Acevedo entered the National Superior School of Fine Art in Lima, Peru to study drawing and painting while pursuing his Civil Engineering studies at the National University of Engineering (UNI), in Peru.

Héctor Acevedo loves the freedom of his work – a diagram undermines the adventure of painting, doesn’t allow for the absolute control of things and it takes away spontaneity. Only under certain circumstances does he use drafts for he prefers to use a free criteria, maybe not with the same rigour as in his earlier years.

Of course, his painting will submit to changes according to the dynamics of the world and in life for not to accept this is to remain petrified. He can diversify when he paints which does not mean to eliminate – he acts according to the importance of the moment. He takes time in realising what it is that is missing, so he leaves a painting for a few days then he retakes it; he finishes it when it fills his spirituality. Héctor can’t deny he is influenced by Picasso and Tamayo, amongst others. He likes subtlety, he likes to hide, what is hidden creates mystery and mystery is the secret of art – in this way he challenges the viewer’s imagination.
